1:06Now PlayingProtesters gathered in front of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's New York City office on Monday to protest subminimum wage.
The protest was pushing for more states, including New York, to adopt higher minimum wages for tipped workers.
They say a wage structure that leaves workers, especially female employees, dependent on tips often forces them to put up with harassing and abusive behavior from their customers or risk not being paid.
Kim Russell, executive advisor with Women's March, said that the event was planned before recent accusations of sexual harassment against Cuomo became public, but that those accusations made the event all the more appropriate.
"These allegations have come out and it's just further proves our point, you know, that we need to not only end subminimum wage, but we also need to end workplace harassment," said Russell.
Russell said that the Women's March organization has called on Cuomo to resign. Cuomo has said that he will not.
