1:09Now PlayingSouth Korea’s Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong expressed his condolences to the Asian Americans killed in the Atlanta shootings, some of Korean descent.
“It is our utmost interest to seek the safety of those Koreans living in the U.S.,” said Chung during a a joint U.S.-South Korea news conference in Seoul with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and South Korean Defense Minister Suh Wook.
At least eight people were killed in shootings at three Asian massage parlors in the Atlanta area, sparking questions about how the U.S. can curb the discrimination and violence against Asians that has escalated during the coronavirus pandemic.
Police arrested Robert Aaron Long, 21, in connection with all three incidents. Atlanta area authorities said at least six of the eight were Asian women, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A motive wasn’t immediately known.
