1:42Now PlayingMoments before he boarded Air Force One to return to the U.S. after an eight-day trip to Europe, President Joe Biden told reporters he feels good about the past week, which included summits with NATO, the European Union and finally Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Biden spoke positively again about his meetings with allies on his first foreign trip as president, which was meant in part to show the U.S. engaging again after President Donald Trump's withdrawal from U.S. allies.
"I think we, the country, has put a different face on where we've been and where we're going" Biden told reporters before getting on Air Force One.
The president said the message he heard from other world leaders was that "they're glad America's back."
Biden also expressed regret for some sharp words to a reporter who questioned him about the success of his summit with Vladimir Putin.
The initial exchange came at the press conference after Biden's meeting with Putin in Geneva earlier Wednesday.
When a reporter asked Biden how he could consider the summit a success when Putin came out of it still denying responsibility for cyberattacks or other alleged wrongdoing, Biden shot back, "If you can't understand that you're in the wrong business."
Biden told the reporters on the tarmac he had been a "wise guy" in his answer, and expressed regret for having been "short."
