Biden made the comments at a post-summit news conference following his meeting with Putin in Geneva, Switzerland.
Biden said he did what he "came to do." He said there were areas of agreement and disagreement, "but it was not done in a hyperbolic atmosphere."
"Over this last week, I believe, I hope, the United States has shown the world that we are back standing with our allies," the president said.
Biden said while much more work remains to be done, "we've established a clear basis on how we intend to deal with Russia and the U.S.-Russia relationship."
