0:55Now PlayingIran on Monday condemned attacks by the Taliban on Panjshir province north of Kabul, the only region the Taliban had not seized during their blitz across Afghanistan last month.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said the Taliban must "honor its commiments" to international law amid reports of them putting Panjshir "under siege".
But the Taliban announced later Monday they had taken control of Panjshir, with thousands of its fighters moving in according to witnesses from the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing for their safety.
The anti-Taliban forces had been led by the former vice president, Amrullah Saleh, and also the son of the iconic anti-Taliban fighter Ahmad Shah Massoud who was killed just days before the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
