Psaki Denounces Texas's Anti-Abortion Bill: 'This Is a Violation of Rights'

2:38Now PlayingWhite House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday defended the White House's continued engagement with a Taliban government that includes an FBI most wanted terrorist and no women named to top positions.
"Should we not talk to the people who are overseeing Afghanistan and just leave it and not get the rest of the American citizens out?" Psaki said.
She added that the U.S. and international community are watching as it decides whether it will formally recognize the Taliban government.
"It's whether they let people depart the country who want to depart, whether they treat women across the country as they have committed to treat them and how they behave and operate, and therefore we're not moving toward recognition," Psaki said. "At the same time, we're dealing with a reality world here where we have to engage in order to get American citizens and others out of the country."
Psaki also slammed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for new comments after signing a new state law banning most abortions that also offers no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.
The Republican said Tuesday that the law does not force rape victims to give birth even though it prohibits abortions before some women know they’re pregnant.
"If Governor Abbott has a means of eliminating all rapists or all rape from the United States then there'll be bipartisan support for that," Psaki told reporters.
"Given there has never been in the history of the country, in the world any leader who's ever been able to eliminate rape, eliminate rapists from our streets, its even more imperative," she said, that women in Texas should have access to healthcare.
The comments from Abbott drew new criticism from opponents of the Texas law that is the biggest curb on abortion in the U.S. since they were legalized a half-century ago. It prohibits abortions once medical professionals can detect cardiac activity, which is usually around six weeks.
