1:58Now PlayingThe head of the World Health Organization (WHO) called on rich countries with large supplies of coronavirus vaccines to refrain from offering booster shots until the end of the year.
Speaking on Wednesday, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said while 70% of high-income nations had now vaccinated 40% of their populations, "not a single low income country has reached either target."
He pointed the finger at those developed countries as well as pharmaceutical companies producing COVID-19 vaccines for depriving low-income nations "of the tools to protect their people."
Tedros had previously called for a "moratorium" on booster shots through the end of September, but the United States and other countries have announced plans to offer them to their vulnerable populations.
Speaking of those planned donations, the WHO chief said "we don't want any more promises, we just want the vaccines."
