1:09Now PlayingMystery still swirls around Gustav Klimt's "Portrait of a Lady", nearly a quarter-century after the painting was stolen.
The identity of the thief of the 1917 artwork, and how it ended up stashed inside a wall, is still unknown.
Experts announced in January 2020 that the painting accidentally discovered a month before by a gardener of the Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery was indeed the Klimt that had disappeared from the gallery in 1997.
It was found without its frame and wrapped in a black plastic trash bag, behind the lockless panel door of a compartment hollowed out of the Piacenza gallery's outer walls
A few months ago, prosecutors officially closed their investigation into the theft, with the statute of limitations on the crime having expired and without identifying the culprit or culprits.
The exhibition runs until March 2022.
It will then reopen on 5 April 2022 at Piacenza, where the show will be aptly called "Klimt Found Again."
