1:41Now PlayingAs the countdown begins to the COP26 conference in Glasgow, China’s top climate envoy urged developed countries to provide money and technology to developing nations to address climate change.
China on Wednesday published a white paper about its response to climate change, and called for more support to be given to developing countries in tackling the global issue ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference.
Vice Minister of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Ye Min said developing countries were "disappointed" that funding and adaptation issues they have been concerned about are "not being taken seriously."
"They have doubts about whether developed countries are supporting developing countries in coping with climate change together, or whether they are just shifting their responsibilities of emission reduction to developing countries," he said during a press briefing.
"This has become the biggest obstacle to the progress of the multilateral agenda," he added. Ye urged developed countries to address the concerns of developing countries at the upcoming COP26 in Glasgow, which will kick off this Sunday.
"In the context of the official implementation of the Paris Agreement, these issues will affect political mutual trust, and the ability of developing countries to take climate-related actions," he said. Ye said the COP26 meeting should address these issues in order to "make progress in achieving the ambitions of mitigation, adaptation and support."
