0:21Now PlayingFollowing several sessions of contentious debate, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sparked outrage from Conservatives in the House of Commons Wednesday when he said they could "stand with people who wave swastikas".
Trudeau has been defending his decision earlier this week to invoke the Emergencies Act.
And while many Canadians have been outraged over the behavior of some demonstrators who have displayed swastikas or carried confederate flags, Conservatives in Parliament accuse Trudeau of overreach and the Emergencies Act unnecessary.
Trudeau's comments about swastikas and confederate flags drew a loud chorus of jeers from the opposition Wednesday and a rebuke by the Speaker for both sides to avoid inflammatory language in the House.
Trudeau has labeled the protesters a “fringe,” and authorities have braced for violence because some have expressed hope that the rally will become the Canadian equivalent of last January's riot at the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.
