0:49Now PlayingUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a possible world food crisis on Tuesday, following the disruption of grain exports from Ukraine.
During a video link addressed to the Italian Parliament, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine, which is one of the world's major food exporters, would struggle to export its agricultural goods.
"How should we sow under shelling of Russian artillery?" he said "how should we sow when the enemy is deliberately placing mines in fields and destroying fuel bases?"
He said he was not hopeful that Ukraine would manage to export any potential harvest either if ports are captured or blocked.
He also mentioned that Russia was placing mines near the Ukrainian coast and that this could pose a threat for neighbouring countries as they can drift to other parts of the sea.
Zelenskyy urged Italian lawmakers to increase pressure on Russia's economy by imposing trade embargoes, banning the entry of Russian vessels to Italy's ports and blocking the estates and bank accounts of Russians oligarchs linked with the Kremlin.
"You know very well who brought the war to Ukraine, who gives orders to fight and who promotes it" he said "you should block all their estates, bank accounts and yachts".
The Ukrainian President mentioned that since the beginning of the war 117 children have been killed in Ukraine and that should Western leaders fail to impose more pressure on Russia to end the war, more would be killed in the future.
