1:16Now PlayingAbout 130,000 Mariupol residents remain trapped in inhumane conditions as Russian forces continue attacks on the southeastern city in Ukraine, Mayor Vadim Boychenko said during an online video briefing.
"Today, a rather substantial number of people are still blocked in absolutely inhumane conditions in the city of Mariupol where there is no water, no heating, no electricity, no communications, no medicines," said Boychenko.
Russian troops continue to block deliveries of humanitarian aid and evacuation buses to the city where 90% of infrastructure has been destroyed, 40% of which irreparably, he said. The Ukrainian General Staff said that eight Russian air strikes were made on Mariupol Monday.
Russian invasion has left thousands of people dead and forced more than 4 million Ukrainians to flee their country.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Russia is regrouping its troops to gain a tactical advantage in the south of the country, storing fuel and organizing hospitals for an influx of wounded as it prepares for a new offensive. Kyiv officials also warned of a coming attack on Kharkiv in the north.
