1:23Now PlayingUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that Ukraine was ready to join NATO "tomorrow" but given that this has not yet happened, Kyiv is forced to pursue its own security guarantees in negotiations with Russia.
Speaking with journalists from leading Ukrainian news outlets, Zelenskyy reiterated his stance that Kyiv will not engage Moscow's delegation on the Russian demands of "denazification and demilitarization."
"Denazification sounds simply insulting," he told journalists. "We can direct this word towards you and Bucha has shown that. We were right."
Ukrainian officials said the bodies of at least 410 civilians have been found in towns around Kyiv that were recaptured from Russian forces and that a “torture chamber” was discovered in the town called Bucha, from which some of the grimmest details have emerged.
Russia has repeatedly rejected the allegations, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissing the scenes outside Kyiv as a “stage-managed anti-Russian provocation.”
As Western leaders condemned the killings in Bucha, Germany, France, Italy and Denmark expelled dozens of Russian diplomats on Monday and Tuesday, saying they were spies.
Zelenskyy's interview comes as the U.N. migration agency on Tuesday said it now estimates that more than 11 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
