0:56Now PlayingRussian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday put all the responsibility for the current energy crisis on Europe's leadership, blaming them for imposing volatile spot trading, shutting down pipelines and slow-walking contractual repair work.
Speaking at the seventh annual Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin explained that Russia pushed against the introduction of spot trading for gas as a main determining factor of prices across Europe.
He went on to explain that gas supplies through Nord Stream 1, a pipeline which travels from Russia to Germany, were not possible due to malfunctions.
He said that Russian energy giant Gazprom was forced to sign a long-term repair works contract with Siemens' UK subsidiary, something that has now hamstrung repair work because of UK sanctions against Russia.
