He said that former Russian prisoners who gave their lives for their homeland during Russia's military campaign in Ukraine "atoned for their guilt."
Speaking at a meeting with participants of the special military operation, Putin noted "everyone can make some mistakes." Speaking of prisoners who took part in the special military operation in Ukraine and were killed, Putin said "they gave their lives for their homeland, and they atoned for their guilt to the fullest."
Putin also added authorities "will do everything to help their relatives." Russia has sent thousands of inmates to fight in Ukraine since the start of of the special military operation.
