as posted by the channelThe United States Postal Service honored the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg by unveiling a stamp of her at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Monday.
The stamp captures the 107th U.S. Supreme Court justice in her black judicial robe and favorite white-lace collar. Monday marks the forever stamp's first day of issue.
"It's fitting that we are assembled to celebrate Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her stamp because RBG quite simply changed the way the world is for American women," said NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg, one of the speaker's at Monday's unveiling.
"And she did that even before she became a judge. For more than a decade until her first judicial appointment, she led the fight in the courts for gender equality," Totenberg said.
President Bill Clinton nominated Ginsburg to serve as a Supreme Court justice in 1993. She was the high court's second female justice. She died on September 18, 2020 at the age of 87 of complications from pancreatic cancer.
Chief Justice John Roberts told the audience that Ginsburg joins other justices of the Supreme Court, such as Chief Justice John Marshall, Louis Brandeis and Thurgood Marshall with being honored with a stamp by the U.S. Postal Service.
