0:11Now PlayingChina on Tuesday reaffirmed its claim over Taiwan, referring to elections on the self-ruled island as "China's internal affairs".
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the comment at a daily news briefing when asked about Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate William Lai’s accusation that Beijing has been meddling in Taiwan’s election.
Mao said the question was not a diplomatic issue and referred reporters to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has repeatedly skirted questions regarding Beijing’s controversial moves on Taiwan, such as the recent balloons spotted flying over the Taiwan Strait from the mainland, by saying it’s unrelated to diplomatic affairs.
Taiwan holds presidential and parliamentary elections Saturday which China has described as a choice between war and peace.
