0:51Now PlayingUS Attorney General Merrick Garland commended the Justice Department’s civil servants for standing up to baseless verbal attacks and threats of violence in a speech Thursday. Amid Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s continued accusations of DOJ “weaponization” throughout his two federal criminal cases, Garland praised his department’s some 115,000 attorneys, agents, and other workers for not bending to politics.
Department employees have faced “an escalation of attacks” that extend “far beyond public scrutiny, criticism, and legitimate and necessary oversight of our work,” Garland said at DOJ headquarters in Washington.
