YouTube Description
as posted by the channelDefense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he will “welcome Elon” to the Pentagon to “find efficiencies” even as the Trump administration prepares for significant increases in military spending.
Calling billionaire Elon Musk “a great patriot,” Hegseth endorsed Musk’s claims that there are billions of savings to be found within the department after President Donald Trump said the Pentagon would be one of the next targets for Musk’s cost-cutting squad.
“There are waste, redundancies and head counts in headquarters that need to be addressed,” Hegseth told reporters during a stop to meet with US forces in Stuttgart, Germany, citing past initiatives related to climate change. The “Defense Department is not in the business of climate change, solving the global thermostat,” he said. “We’re in the business of deterring and winning wars.”
At the same time, Hegseth said the US should spend at least 3% of GDP on defense. Trump said in a Fox News interview that aired Monday that “we want to raise defense spending. I think we have to have it.”
