0:58Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump sparred with Maine’s governor during an event at the White House over his threats to block federal dollars from the state until they bar transgender people from being allowed to compete in women’s sports.
“You better do it, because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all,” Trump said, directing his remark to Democratic Maine Governor Janet Mills, who was part of a group of governors from both parties visiting Washington.
During their heated exchange, Mills said she was “complying with state and federal law” and suggested the state was readying a legal challenge to Trump’s actions. “We are going to follow the law,” she added “See you in court.”
Trump said he hoped Mills would “enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be in politics.”
The public clash came a day after Trump made his threat to cut off federal funding for Maine, when he told a gathering of Republican governors on Thursday that “we’re not going to give them any federal funding, none whatsoever, until they clean that up.”
