Hassett said he expected the Fed to lower its key interest rate by 25 basis points, but he would prefer a larger interest-rate cut, indicating he saw justification for a 50 basis point cut.
Hassett noted that if he was appointed chair, the Fed's research division would undergo a shake-up, and he would invest in having the best forecasters who are building nonlinear time series models.
