1:02Now PlayingThe deadly fire west of Athens has largely been brought under control, after burning 10,000 hectares (24,710 acres) as it spread from Viotia into Attica over the weekend. #greece #fire #weather #world #europe #news
Around 500 firefighters, including 46 volunteers from France and Romania, tackled the blaze, backed by more than two dozen planes and helicopters. Two died when two helicopters collided over Psatha in Attica on Sunday.
Aerial forces deployed to assist ground crews in hard-to-reach areas have been hindered by turbulence and strong winds in Greece, but the situation has improved on Monday. Water drops are now being carried out and there are no longer any active fire fronts in Viotia.
