7:22Now PlayingTwo National Guardsmen who were shot in downtown Washington remain in critical condition in an incident just blocks from the White House, FBI Director Kash Patel said Wednesday.
The shooting occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time. The guardsmen were on “high visibility” patrol when a suspect rounded a corner, raised a firearm and shot at them, Metropolitan Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Jeffery Carrol said.
Other members of the National Guard in the area and members of law enforcement were “able to assist and bring that individual into custody,” Carrol said. The suspect was also shot, he added, saying that at this time there were no other suspects.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser called the incident a “targeted shooting.”
