The drug company is looking to join its rivals in getting priority review vouchers, Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said, after several drugmakers received the express passes after striking deals with the White House on pricing.
The national priority voucher program was designed to support US interests and speed reviews for companies that are working with the administration on critical health goals. Many large drugmakers that reached agreements got the US Food and Drug Administration vouchers that can cut review times to as little as one month, from the current process that can take 10 months to a year.
While Pfizer was one of the first pharmaceutical companies to reach a deal with President Donald Trump on pricing, paving the way for future deals and easing investor concerns about the future of one of the country’s most important industries, it didn’t receive one of the coveted vouchers.
Bourla, from the sidelines of the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference, said Pfizer has spoken to the administration about getting one of the fast passes. He declined to say which drugs have been in discussion. He also said he’s seeing a “willingness” from the White House to help with pricing outside of the US.
