Military discipline has always been necessarily harsh, but the Georgians certainly took it to another level. There is much said about the punishment of flogging, but how much of it is true? Was this punishment really as brutal as people make it out to be? Was it anywhere so common as portrayed in media? And, if it was truly so horrible, why did it happen? Because while obviously these were pretty harsh times, even the cruelest of officers had to understand that the worst thing you could do to your own army was to throw away soldiers to the lash!
