Situational awareness is key to any military campaign's success! But relying on local guides and one's "home turf advantage" can really only take an army so far where complex logistics and military movements are concerned. To gain an advantage, armies need accurate maps, and they need them quickly!
This video is all about how George Washington's Geographers were able to produce maps for the Continental Army while on campaign, using nothing more than a series of (relatively) simple tools and some maths- they were soldiers who fought not with muskets, but pens and compasses!
