But this new academic year will present students with even more difficulties, as Trump's fuel blockade brings more frequent blackouts and the administration continues to tighten its chokehold on the island.
Still, students who spoke to BT were eager to return to the classroom and expressed commitment to their studies, in a country where education, from early childhood to university, is guaranteed as a universal right for its citizens.
