When you read about an act of violence do you immediately assume that the perpetrator is mentally ill? What about terrorism? What is the link? Borealis talks to Canadian forensic psychiatrist Peter Collins to shed light on these issues.
About my guest Peter Collins:
Peter Collins is the Operational Forensic Psychiatrist with the Criminal Behaviour Analysis Section of the OPP and an Associate Professor with the Division of Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. From 1990 to 1995 he was a member of the first profiling unit of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Violent Crime Analysis Section) and was involved in the development of the Violent Crime Linkage Analysis System (ViCLAS). Since 1992 he has been a member of the crisis/hostage negotiation team of the Toronto Police Service Emergency Task Force.
About the host Phil Gurski:
Phil is the President and CEO of Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting Ltd. and Programme Director for the Security, Economics and Technology (SET) hub at the University of Ottawa’s Professional Development Institute (PDI). He worked as a senior strategic analyst at CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) from 2001-2015, specializing in violent Islamist-inspired homegrown terrorism and radicalisation.
