0:49Now PlayingForeign Secretary Ed Miliband says the government “agrees that there is ethnic cleansing of Palestinians” in parts of the West Bank, and accuses the Israeli government of turning a “blind eye”.
His statement comes after confirming the UK will ban the import of goods from Israeli settlements in the illegally occupied West Bank, marking a significant “reset” of relations with the country.
The government will also sanction companies and individuals “who provide services such as construction, infrastructure, financing, or real estate for settlement expansion".
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has announced the closure of the British Consulate in Jerusalem and the removal of British representatives from the International Gaza Support Centre.
