Gist Nigeria tells the story of Mohammed, a 31- year-old secondary school graduate who was arrested for alleged theft. After spending about a year at the Ikoyi Correctional Service, he was set free by state authorities for lack of evidence.
During his incarceration, he met with some stage actors who often visit the facility in conjunction with an NGO. Mohammed says theatre has given him a new lease of life and a reason to aspire for greatness despite the stigma of being an ex-inmate.
Mohammed is now back at the prison yard where he serves as a volunteer and mentor to convicts and inmates awaiting trial.
Gist Nigeria is a 30-minute current affairs programme, co-produced by Channels Television and the BBC. The program offers in-depth reporting, focusing on stories behind the news and their impact on its audience.
