2:22Now PlayingHey guys, Chris Chappell here from China Uncensored. Let's get a little music going, set the mood. Oohh yeah. Welcome to Sunnylands, California, 120 miles southeast of Los Angeles. 200 acres of olive trees, sunshine, and a beautiful artificial lake. The perfect spot for a sunset stroll between the leader of the free world and the leader of the not-so-free world.
US President Barack Obama and Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping have been itching for a chance to get away from it all, for a little unscripted downtime. Good news, Barack: I hear they have a real party culture in China.
It's going to be hard, though, for Xi Jinping's wife, the elegant Peng Liyuan. Might start to feel a little like a third wheel. Especially since Michelle Obama won't be attending. She, um, had some stuff to do back in the White House. Snubbed!
Now actually, this is a pretty rare thing. US and Chinese leaders are usually regulated to painfully stilted, scripted meetings. Former US Vice President and Dark Lord of the Sith Dick Cheney and wrote in his memoirs that he felt even Chinese leaders were constantly monitored by their political rivals. He complains at length of suffering through former Chinese leader Hu Jintao's scripted answers and even of Hu's "handlers" from political rival Jiang Zemin's faction bursting into private meetings and sitting between Bush and Hu. That's a little freaky. It'd kind of be like if Rand Paul injected himself between Obama and Xi. But everyone was a little afraid of Jiang Zemin. I mean he is a genocidal maniac. Maybe that's why George W Bush didn't want to touch him.
So what are Xi and Obama going to talk about, unscripted and far away from prying eyes? Who knows? But one thing's clear: Sadly, they won't be having a slumber party. Xi Jinping will be staying in a nearby Hyatt hotel because of "Chinese concerns about eavesdropping," according to the New York Times. Which is totally ridiculous! I mean, it's not like some large US governmental organ invades people's privacy by secretly collecting everyone's phone and internet data. Hmm, maybe someone should tell Xi Jinping's wife to stop using that iPhone. Of course, then again, since China just hacks into US severs and databases, I guess it'll all just go back to China anyway.
So what do you guys think of this meeting between Xi Jinping and Barack Obama. What will they talk about?! What should they talk about?! Comment below. And be sure to check out my channel China Uncensored for new episodes everyday.
