Court documents revealed that a 2-year-old girl was sent to Honduras alongside her mother who is an illegal immigrant. ICE detained the mother earlier this week at an immigration office. The two-year-old was born in America, making her an American citizen. However, her mother is an illegal immigrant.
In an effort to halt the deportation of the two girls, the father — we don’t know whether he’s illegal or not — but he filed to transfer custody of the girls to his sister-in-law who is a US citizen. But the Justice Dept. denied this request because according to a handwritten note from the mother, she wanted her kids to go with her.
And the Justice Department’s lawyers argued that it was in the child’s best interest to remain in her mother’s legal custody. And also stated that the child is welcome to come back to the United States, though the illegal immigrant mother is not.
