American Airlines has promised Wall Street and travelers that 2026 will be a turnaround year. It’s been trailing its U.S. competitors. In 2025, American made $111 million, while rivals Delta Air Lines and United Airlines posted $5 billion and more than $3 billion in profit, respectively. Pilot and flight attendant unions have questioned CEO Robert Isom and American’s leadership. The airline is trying to revamp its business around and catch up to rivals with premium offerings like a larger top-tier cabin that brings in higher revenue than coach.
