4:23Now PlayingCalifornia just got hit with a reality check. Thanks to a federal court ruling, nonresidents can now apply for concealed carry licenses in California—but only if they’re members of specific pro-Second Amendment organizations.
What’s Happening?
U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Garnett ruled that members of Gun Owners of America (GOA), the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA), or Gun Owners of California can now apply for a nonresident CCW license in California.
For years, California made it nearly impossible for anyone to legally carry, let alone nonresidents. But now, if you’re from a pro-gun state like Texas or Florida, you actually have a path to carrying lawfully in California.
How It Works:
You must be a member of one of these pro-gun organizations.
Background checks & firearm laws still apply. This isn’t a loophole—it’s about equal rights.
Application process:
Use your out-of-state ID instead of a California driver’s license.
If your ID lacks a current address, provide utility bills or your home state’s CCW license.
List the specific handguns you’ll carry in CA, including make, model, and serial number.
California Isn’t Making This Easy
Let’s be real—California didn’t suddenly become pro-2A overnight. This happened because GOA, SAF, and CRPA fought back. And you can bet California will slow-walk applications and add red tape to make this process as painful as possible.
Traveling with a Gun in California
California’s strict transport laws mean your firearm must be unloaded and locked in a container while driving. That’s why I always travel with a Vaultek Lifepod—it keeps my firearm secure, compliant, and theft-resistant whether I’m on the road or in a hotel. If you carry and travel, you need one.
Final Thoughts
This ruling is a major win for gun rights, but the fight isn’t over. If you’re planning to apply for a nonresident CCW in California, drop a comment below—I want to hear about your experience.
Stay armed. Stay vigilant. And welcome to the Constitution, California.
