That is a win.
But the bigger question is this:
What was this really for?
Because the code they wanted to use cannot see what you bought.
It cannot tell whether you bought a rifle, a box of ammo, a cleaning kit, a hat, or anything else inside the store.
All it can show is that you walked into a gun store and spent money.
That is not a mass-shooting early-warning system.
That is not crime prevention.
That is a roster.
Gun control groups sold this as a way to stop violence before it starts, but that means flagging people before they’ve done anything wrong.
Before a crime.
Before a threat.
Before anything except a lawful purchase at a lawful business.
And that is the whole problem.
To them, the suspicious behavior is the gun purchase itself.
You stop being a customer the moment you walk into the store.
You become a lead.
That is how a backdoor gun registry gets built — not by passing a national registry law out in the open, but by letting private companies quietly mark gun buyers in the payment system.
One code.
One database.
One subpoena.
One leak.
One “emergency.”
And suddenly a list of purchases becomes a list of people.
The House did the right thing by voting to block it, but this fight is not over. The Senate still has to act, and this is exactly the kind of thing they will try to let die quietly when nobody is paying attention.
So call your senators.
Tell them to support the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act.
Because if they cannot see what you bought, they have no business flagging you just because you walked into a gun store.
