4:38Now PlayingThe anti-gun crowd loves one argument:
Leave guns to the trained professionals.
The experts.
The cops.
But then a real police recruitment ad goes on camera and says you do **not** have to be an expert marksman to earn a badge. You just have to meet the department’s qualification standard, and if you’re struggling, they’ll train you enough to pass.
That completely changes the conversation.
Because the entire gun-control argument depends on the idea that a badge automatically makes someone more qualified, more responsible, and more trustworthy with a firearm than the average law-abiding citizen.
But a badge does not magically make anybody safe.
Training does.
Practice does.
Taking the gun seriously does.
And plenty of regular civilian gun owners out-train cops by a mile. That is not an insult to police. Some of the best shooters I know wear a badge, and many officers spend their own money to train because their departments do not give them nearly enough.
But that is exactly the point.
The best ones are the exception.
The recruitment ad is advertising the average.
For a lot of officers, the gun is just issued gear. They qualify, carry it, and may not think deeply about it again until the next qualification. Meanwhile, regular people at the range on a Tuesday night are putting in reps, taking classes, learning their equipment, and treating self-defense like their life depends on it.
Because it does.
When it is your door at 3 a.m., there is no responding officer yet.
There is you.
You are the first responder to your own emergency.
So the next time someone says guns should be left to the trained professionals, show them the ad where the professionals admit the standard is not elite.
The badge was never the thing that made someone safe.
The mindset was.
The training was.
And all of that is available to you.
