Nobody was robbed.
Nobody was threatened.
A police officer walked up the aisle doing his job, and a grown man’s blood pressure spiked because of the gun on the officer’s hip.
Then he went online and turned that feeling into an argument.
There’s a word for that:
Hoplophobia.
The irrational fear of weapons.
Colonel Jeff Cooper coined the term back in 1962 because he needed something more precise than “anti-gun nut.” It describes a fear so unreasoning that the object starts to feel dangerous all by itself, separate from the person carrying it.
And that is exactly what this post reveals.
The gun did not move.
The cop did not threaten him.
No crime happened.
But the presence of the firearm alone was enough to make him anxious.
To be fair, if you did not grow up around guns, that reflex can feel real. I understand that. Before I got into firearms, I had the same kind of reaction when someone brought a Glock around me in college.
The difference is I questioned the reflex instead of building a worldview on top of it.
That is where this becomes bigger than one post.
Because his fear is aimed completely backwards.
He is rattled by the armed police officer.
He is even more rattled by armed guards outside a school.
But the predator those guards are there to stop does not get a single word.
That is the anti-gun mindset in one sentence:
The gun scares them more than the person who would make the gun necessary.
And if you follow that logic all the way down, it gets worse.
If the cop should not be armed, the school guard should not be armed, and the regular citizen should not be armed, then who is left with the gun?
The criminal.
The one person who was never going to ask permission anyway.
He does not care about your signs, your laws, your gun-free zones, or your feelings. Every restriction lands on the people who follow the rules and slides right past the people who never planned to.
America was built on the opposite premise.
Most of the world says the state holds force and the citizen waits.
America says the people have the right to defend themselves.
That is not the worst thing about this country.
That is the point.
He is afraid of the wrong person on that train.
