Over the next four years, counties and states across the U.S. will hold commemorative events recognizing the one-hundred-fiftieth anniversary of the American Civil War. A bill to be introduced by Representative Jesse Jackson seeks to establish a "National" commission to help coordinate these events.

This effort was the subject of a recent legislative briefing on Capitol Hill, organized by several prominent Civil War organizations.
