In that time he was responsible for providing President Nixon with briefing papers, taking care of his personal correspondence, maintaining historical records and overseeing the installation of the White House taping system.
In this excerpt of a longer oral history interview for the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, Alexander Butterfield describes his testimony to the Senate Committee investigating Watergate and how he revealed the existence of President Nixon's secret taping system.
This interview -- seen here for the first time on television -- is conducted by Timothy Naftali, director of the Nixon Library. It is the second of a two part interview.
