53:31Now PlayingRep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) loses a second vote for House Speaker to replace former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who was voted out of his job two weeks ago. In the second round, twenty-two Republican House Members vote for someone other than Congressman Jordan for Speaker, two more than in the first round.
Congressman Jordan vows to stay in the Speaker's race and try to convince those Republicans to support him, as some Republicans and some Democrats are thinking about, in the absence of permanent speaker, giving the temporary Speaker – Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) – additional powers so that urgent legislative work can be done.
President Joe Biden makes a wartime trip to Israel, telling the Prime Minister "you are not alone" as Israel continues its military response to the Hamas' brutal attack on Israelis.
The President says he will ask Congress for an "unprecedented support package for Israel's defense," that "there's no higher priority than the release and safe return of all hostages" Hamas is holding, and because the U.S. "unequivocally stands for the protection of civilian life during conflict," he is glad Israel will allow Egypt to deliver limit amount of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
