33:21Now PlayingSenate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DNY) addressed the chamber to support Sen. Ben Ray Lujan (DNM)'s bill extending funding for food assistance through the rest of the shutdown. Sen. Lujan criticized the White House's refusal to use contingency funding for SNAP, and asked for his bill to be passed through unanimous consent. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (RSD) objected, raising his voice to criticize Democrats' opposition to Republicans' continuing resolution that would end the shutdown, funding SNAP and WIC. The Majority Leader asked for unanimous consent to vote on the continuing resolution. Sen. Lujan objected, saying Republicans' majority did not let them evade negotiations over Democrats' desired extension to Affordable Care Act subsidies. Sen. Thune argued the Democratic demand to extend these subsidies displayed the failure of Obamacare, and said discussions about health care reform could take place after the shutdown ended.
