Trump repeals landmark EPA climate finding

The Trump administration on Thursday revoked a landmark scientific finding that has long served as the legal foundation for federal regulations limiting greenhouse gas emissions, saying the move would reduce up to $1.3 trillion in regulatory costs.

"This is about as big as it gets," President Trump said at the White House alongside EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, calling it the "single largest deregulatory action in American history."

The rule finalized by the EPA rescinds a 2009 government declaration known as the endangerment finding, which determined that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

The finding has underpinned nearly all climate regulations issued under the Clean Air Act for vehicles, power plants and other sources that scientists have concluded are contributing to global warming.

"Under the process just completed by the EPA, we are officially terminating the so-called endangerment finding, a disastrous Obama-era policy that severely damaged the American auto industry and massively drove up prices for American consumers," President Trump said.

The president dismissed concerns that the move could harm public health and the environment, telling Americans, "Don't worry about it."

"It has nothing to do with public health. This was all a scam, a giant scam," he told reporters. "This was a ripoff of the country by Obama and Biden."
