Farmer and retired Navy SEAL officer Ed Gallrein (R) declared victory over incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie (R) in the Republican primary for Kentucky's fourth congressional district on Tuesday night, a major victory for President Trump as he sought to oust a key opponent in the House GOP.

"For the same reasons I entered as a Navy SEAL officer in 1983, 'cause I had the audacity to think I could make a difference—and I did—I will serve this district, my party, and my nation with that same audacity to make a difference," Mr. Gallrein said.

Rep. Massie, a staunch libertarian, had opposed several of President Trump's priorities,  including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as Republicans sought to legislate with a razor-thin majority in the House. His discharge petition to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act, with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), forced the White House and Justice Department to release the Epstein files.

The race between Rep. Massie and Mr. Gallrein had become the most expensive congressional primary in American history, with over $32 million in ad spending as of May 17th.
