2:55Now PlayingTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent stayed tight-lipped Thursday on a potential U.S. deal with Iran following reports that the two sides were closing in on an agreement.
“We perhaps have the makings of a deal here,” he told reporters, but cautioned it would be up to President Trump to make the final call.
“Everything depends on what the president wants to do, and President Trump is not going to make a bad deal for the American people.”
Secretary Bessent reiterated the president’s red lines for any final deal: that Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz, turns over its enriched uranium and abandons its nuclear program.
Asked whether the deal addressed those red lines, Secretary Bessent replied, “If there could be no deal without those, why would there be a deal without those?”
