2:23Now PlayingPresident Trump announced the "Freedom Haulers" initiative on Thursday, which aims to connect military veterans with commercial truck driving careers.
"We're also taking actions to replace these unqualified migrant truck drivers with highly qualified American veterans," the president announced from the White House.
Under the new initiative, veterans with experience driving heavy trucks in the military will "automatically be eligible for a commercial driver's license," while those without that experience will receive training.
The campaign is part of the administration's broader effort to fill workforce shortages following its crackdown on undocumented immigrants.
In April 2025, the president signed an executive order requiring commercial truck drivers to read, write and speak English proficiently.
"We've already moved more than 24,000 non-English speakers from behind the wheel," he said.
