0:59Now PlayingThe United Daughters of the Confederacy was a women's group founded in Nashville, TN that was dedicated to the preservation of The Lost Myth ideology. A big part of its mission was to recast secessionists as patriots who were fighting for a just cause, and who were simply outnumbered. Much of the mythology that many Americans believe about the South's legacy post Civil War is due to the work they did to build monuments to Confederate heroes and influence textbooks to portray the South in a more sympathetic light.
