Fr. Anthony Gramlich reminds us that the veneration of relics is not superstition, but a profound expression of faith rooted in the Church since her earliest days. Just as God worked miracles through the saints while they lived, He continues to pour out graces through their relics. In Acts 19:11-12, even handkerchiefs and aprons touched to St. Paul healed the sick and drove out evil spirits. The same power of Christ that lived in the saints still flows through these holy remains.
Relics are a tangible way to connect with the saints who loved God with heroic faith. By venerating relics, we honor their example and ask their intercession, drawing strength from their closeness to Christ. At the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, Fr. Anthony explains that we venerate St. Faustinaâ s relic daily. She who faithfully recorded the revelations of Divine Mercy continues to intercede for us before the Lord. To kneel before her relic is to touch the witness of the “secretary of Divine Mercy” and to ask her to bring us closer to the Heart of Jesus.
The veneration of relics is a reminder that holiness is embodied, lived, and accessible. The saints are not distant figures, but companions who pray with us and for us. Through their relics, God reminds us that His grace is not bound by time or place.
