0:58Now PlayingFr. Chris reminds us of a powerful truth: “We can overturn a lifetime of righteousness with a single mortal sin. Likewise, we can overturn a lifetime of wickedness with a single act of repentance.” Such is the mercy and justice of God — a mercy so complete that one moment of sincere contrition can erase a lifetime of sin, and a justice so real that one grave sin can destroy a lifetime of virtue.
But there’s another truth we cannot forget — the holy souls in Purgatory are waiting for our help. As revealed to St. Faustina in her Diary, Jesus allowed her to see Purgatory and the suffering souls who long for Heaven. They can no longer merit for themselves, yet they are not lost. They are purified by God’s mercy, and they count on the prayers and sacrifices of the Church on earth — our prayers — to hasten their entrance into eternal joy.
Fr. Chris reminds us that these souls are not strangers; they are our family, friends, parents, children — those we have loved and lost. The bonds of charity do not end at death. In the Communion of Saints, the Church Triumphant, the Church Suffering, and the Church Militant are united in Christ’s love. When we pray for the dead, we participate in divine mercy itself.
Never abandon them. Offer the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Holy Mass, or even small daily sacrifices for their release. As the Diary of St. Faustina tells us, “The flames of Purgatory do not touch the soul that prays for the souls in Purgatory.” Let us be their intercessors, so that one day, they may be ours.
