12:07Now Playing"One of the things that I always tell my daughters is, every date is a potential mate, and every mate is a potential baby daddy, father, husband...," says Dr. Boyce Watkins of FinancialJuneteenth. In this segment of his VladTV exclusive, Boyce Watkins details his thoughts on securing financial stability as it relates to providing for your family and more.
Sharing a sincere congratulations to Kanye and Kim K. on the recent announcement of their baby news, Dr. Boyce Watkins speaks on the inherent financial implications of having a child. He then mentions that it costs on average about $250,000 to raise a child from birth to the age of 18, and he cites the main factors being the need to provide adequate transportation and housing, not to mention child care.
After exploring the responsibilities of raising a child, as well as being accountable and answering all the tough questions that accompany parenthood, the good doctor's dialogue becomes probing in its depth. When analyzing the financial requirements alongside the personal responsibilities, he adds, "The bigger investment is your body, your life, your health, your well-being, your future, invest in those things with places and with people that are worth it for you, not people that are going to mess it all up for you."
Eventually the convo segues back to how Hip-Hop celebrities have learned to successfully link their children to their fame and fortune. Using Jay Z, Will Smith, and Kanye West as examples, he soon expounds, "All of their children have been linked to their financial situation on some level."
Check out the full video as he conveys his thoughts on how Kim K. astutely made her baby announcement via Twitter that linked back to her reality show, how these celebrity parents have learned to leave their children with wealth, and how they're positioning their children to be financial assets to the household.
