In this clip, Jemele Hill starts out by reacting to Akon's comment about feeling like Black people in America are held back in some ways by their focus on slavery. She explained that the legacy of slavery is so deep in the country because it still exists, and Jemele gives the example of George Floyd being executed in the streets. Jemele also spoke about Germany apologizing for their past and not glorifying Nazis with statues, while the U.S. has monuments and statues for white supremacists. Moving along, Jemele expained what she feels it would take for the U.S. to move past racism, which she thinks can happen with a meaningful apology and undoing of past mistakes.
